Question
Testing Your Child at Home (Guideline for Parents)/ Guía para asesorar a su hijo en su hogar

Answer

DORA, ADAM, and DOMA are diagnostic computer adaptive tests.  As students answer questions correctly, the test will get harder, as they are making mistakes, the questions will get easier.

It is important NOT to help your child because they will not get the lessons assigned that they need. We need to know what they do not know in order to assign the correct lessons.

Ways that you CAN help your child:

  • Make sure the testing environment is relatively quiet
  • Be sure you child has headphones if the environment is not quiet enough
  • Best practice is to break the test into shorter sessions (20-30 minute intervals work well)
    • Click the stop button to stop. Re-log in to resume testing.
  • Have scatch paper and pencil for the math testing
  • Encourage your child to do their best
  • If they don't know an answer they should answer with their best guess
    • For math, if they don't know how to approach a problem in about a minute, they should guess or click the "I don't know button" if it appears

For ADAM: Total assessment time is as follows: Grades K and 1: 10 to 20 min.; Grades 2 to 3: 30 to 45 min; Grade 4 to5: 60 to 75 min.; Grade 6 to 7: 80 to 120 mins. Plan to break the assessment into multiple 1/2 to 1 hour sessions to reduce student fatigue.

For DORA: Total assessment time is as follows: Grades K and 1: 10-20 min, Grades 2 to 12: 30 to 60 minutes (occasionally longer for older students)

For Spanish-speaking parents- Para los padres hispanohablantes:

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
